LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A lucky blood donor received the keys to a new Toyota Tacoma today at Kentucky Blood Center’s Beaumont location.
Larry C. Taylor, 47, of Versailles, donated blood on Aug. 22 and won a new truck a few weeks later.
“I’ve never won anything big like this,” said Taylor, a dedicated blood donor who has generously given five gallons. Taylor, who is an Environmental Scientist Consultant with the Energy and Environment Cabinet in Frankfort, said donating blood “is the right thing to do. I can help multiple people with just one donation.”
Taylor, who typically gives at Beaumont Donor Center, said he began donating 30 years ago when he was a student at Lafayette High School in Lexington and chaired the school’s blood drives.
Anyone who registered to give blood with Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) June 1 through Aug. 31 was automatically entered into the drawing, which consisted of more than 21,000 names. The Toyota giveaway helped to encourage people to give blood at a time when blood donations can typically take a dip.
“Thanks to everyone who registered to save a life this summer and also Toyota on Nicholasville who helped make this giveaway possible,” said Martha Osborne, KBC’s Executive Director of Marketing and Recruitment. “With everyone’s help, we finished the summer with a strong community blood supply.”
